New Year New Shed

2019 has flown past so fast we can hardly believe it! Which has all of us wondering, first of all, where the decade has gone, but also, could it be time to buy a new shed? Maybe that garden shed in your backyard is old enough to remember Y2K. Maybe you’re just ready to manifest a big change in 2020. Whatever your hangup, we’re here to talk you through the “to buy a shed or not” decision process.

Here are the top signs that you could use a new garden shed in the new year.

Your current shed is a bit cramped

We’re big proponents of keeping your shed clean and organised. With some good storage shelves and the proper heavy duty plastic containers, you can transform you garden shed into a minimalist paradise.

But if you’ve tried all of the best ways to keep your shed organised, and your shed is still packed to the brim with clutter? It’s a pretty good sign that you need a bigger shed.

Plus, think ahead to some other purchases that you might be making this year. Have you been toying with the idea of buying a ride-on lawn mower? Are you going to be renovating the house? If so, some extra storage space in your backyard will be a life saver.

Your shed is more than 20 years old

It’s time. Throw a retirement party for your garden shed. Have an amazing BBQ to thank your shed for its years of service. And then get a new shed. You deserve it.

Your current shed is literally falling apart

Of course, your garden shed doesn’t have to be over 20 years old to have some serious wear-and-tear. If you can see that the walls are warping, rotting, or just not quite as sturdy as they used to be, it’s probably time to invest in something new.

Take a look, also, at your foundation. Are there any signs of sinking or cracking? Do you take a deep breath every time you step into your shed because the floor is creaky? Don’t wait for the whole thing to collapse. It might be time to buy a shed.

You’ve had issues with pests

You may not be able to see any structural damage and the foundation may seem solid, but if you’ve had a rodent or pest problem, that’s a red flag. It might be that your shed has some holes or rot somewhere that you can’t see.

If you’re tired of calling out the exterminator or trying every DIY pest control solution on the internet, you might consider getting a new shed. After all, there’s something about your old shed that keeps those pests coming back. Even if you seal up all the holes that you can see, those pests are going to try to go back to the place where they feel safe.

Getting a new shed is like starting from zero. You can be 100% sure that you’re not creating an environment for pests by properly storing all of your supplies, and your factory-fresh shed will be sterile and boring for pests and animals. What we love about using BlueScope Steel in our products is that you don’t have to worry about termites or other wood-loving insects in your garden shed.

You’ve got big plans for your exterior aesthetic

The right shed is a big part of your backyard look. And if your shed isn’t working in your space, it will be the first thing you notice when you step outside. Whether your shed is the wrong colour, it looks a bit old, or it doesn’t fit with the layout anymore, you’ll know immediately if a newer shed will look better.

If you’re redesigning your backyard space, make sure to include your shed in those plans. Will that garden redesign compliment your current shed, or is it best to get a new one? How about your furniture? Your fence? Think about all of the things you plan on changing or upgrading in your backyard and whether they’ll clash with your current shed.

EasyShed offers 25 colour options so that you can be sure that your shed perfectly blends into your space. Whether you’re looking for a pop of colour or something subtle, there are plenty of options to choose from. Read our recent article on choosing the right colour for your shed to get thinking about how colour can transform you space.

You want a room for yourself

2020 is going to be all about starting fresh. A new shed can give you the perfect space to build that new home office you’ve been wanting or develop a new hobby. It can also be a quiet and meditative space so that you can make relaxation a bigger part of your life in the new year.

If you already have a shed in your backyard, you’ll have to move the current items in your shed around to accommodate your new endeavor. That’s fine, but you definitely won’t get the fresh new feeling of starting with an empty space. On the other hand, when you build your new shed from the ground up, you’ll be inspired to create the perfect layout for your desk, yoga studio, reading room, workshop, or whatever exciting things you have planned for 2020.

You want one!

If you’re still trying to convince yourself that you need a new shed, let us tell you this: it’s okay to replace your shed simply because you want to. If the shed you have just isn’t working for your backyard space anymore or you want to step into the new year with a brand new shed to match, now’s the perfect time to get a new shed.

So what will you decide: New Year, New Shed?

Are you still on the fence about whether you should get a new shed in 2020? Whatever you decide, EasyShed is here to talk you through the process of finding the right shed or making improvements to your current shed.
