Garages vs Carports: Which one should I get?

If you’re considering an addition to your home that has room for your car and large items that don’t fit inside, it’s hard to decide between a carport or garage. This helpful guide to the benefits of each option and how they’ll fit your needs should get you sorted out in no time!

What’s the difference between a carport and a garage?

Carports are standalone structures that provide a semi-covered structure for your car! They don’t have sidewalls but a single cover that offers shelter from the weather. Garages come with standard walls and usually are attached to the home. Depending on the size, it can also be used as a practical area with a workbench and extra storage space.

Why is a garage more expensive than a carport?

Unless there is a difference in size or materials used, carports are cheaper because of the limited protection that they provide. While a garage may cost more, it’s a worthwhile investment in your home and gives you a dedicated area for the extras.

Benefits of Garages

It’s a practical home extension that ensures more protection from theft and property security, can be converted into a living or workspace and may increase the value of your home.

Wondering what to do if you decide not to use your garage for storage? Turn into a home office or an extra recreational space for the family.

Which garage shed design is best for me?

It’s ideal to have a shed that has double door entry and secure locking, a side door for easy access and a secure pitched roof to support the integrity of the shed structure. The manufacturing process and standards used also ensure that you’ll get a quality space.

Our steel sheds are made with all of this in mind and make a great asset to your home:

  • Weather tight storage with high-tensile BlueScope steel.
  • ShedSAFE and EdgeSAFE Technology to protect the owner from risk.
  • Colorbond options for a durable finish and to guarantee the shed lifespan.
  • Australian owned and made to suit the extremes of the climate.

Do I need to get council approval for my garage?

You’ll need to check if you need a council permit to add a shed to your property compared to a carport. To speed up the process, we recommend contacting them with your shed plans early. Make sure to specify the dimensions, where you intend to install it and what purpose it will be used for. For more specific stages, find out from them before you apply for council approval.

Where can I buy a garage shed?

At EasyShed, you’re buying direct from the manufacturer to help you save! You can buy online to get your shed delivered straight to your door or arrange Click & Collect from a depot.
